The Venezuelan Jonathan Suarez confirmed his status as one of the best BMX riders, winning the gold medal of the Central American and Caribbean Games Mayagüez 2010 in the town of Rincon, Puerto Rico. The silver and bronze medals went to the Colombians Augusto Castro and Sergio Salazar, respectively.

On a very complicated track and rain which lasted basically all day, Suarez finished with a time of 33.598 to take first place and win the gold medal. Augusto Castro finished with a time of 33.962 and Sergio Salazar 34.925.

"It was a close finish because I had the two Colombians very close, but we prepared hard with great perseverance." said Suarez also known as the mosquito.

The athlete appreciated the support provided by the Ministry of Popular Power for Sport, National Sports Institute and the Venezuelan Federation of Cycling and the Venezuelan Olympic Committee.
